Several women, including Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and Bhojan Matas, were felicitated on Thursday at ‘Matri Shakti Samman Samaroh’ organised on the initiative of the state president of the Uttarakhand Congress Social Media Cell in the Indira Nagar area under Cantt Assembly constituency.
Addressing the programme, Thapar said that the true power of society rests in those women who work day in and day out to serve society in silence, without craving for high position or recognition. “Anganwadi workers provide children with nutrition, early education and maternal and child health. ASHA workers similarly help protect the lives of mothers and children by providing health services to every household. Bhojan Matas provide food to children in schools and contribute to their health and future. These women reach every section of the society and every family. Without their contribution, the idea of a healthy, educated and empowered society is incomplete,” he added.
Explaining the Congress’s inclusive vision, he said that it has always been to reach out to the last person in society and honour those whose contributions are often left out of the public eye. “Respect for women is meaningful only when we understand their struggles, speak out for their rights and give them the respect and recognition they deserve,” he noted.
