Pradesh Congress Committee president Ganesh Godiyal expressed his protest on the visit of Union Home minister Amit Shah by wearing black armbands.
He expressed his opposition to what he termed BJP government’s anti-people policies, the deteriorating law and order situation in the State, the safety of women and justice in the Ankita Bhandari murder case.
Godiyal said that at the time, the people of Uttarakhand are grappling with many serious issues but the BJP governments at the centre and State are busy organizing political events and campaigning instead of finding solutions to the concerns of the people.
He said that the Ankita Bhandari murder case is a highly sensitive matter linked to the self-respect of Uttarakhand and the safety of its daughters. The people of the State continue to demand complete justice for Ankita and a fair and transparent resolution of all questions related to the murder. “ On one hand the BJP opposed the Congress rally held in Delhi on November 01 claiming that such events on the occasion of festivals are not in the interest of the traders, while today on the festival of Dhanteras, in which people do maximum shopping, they are creating problems by organizing the meeting of Amit Shah,’’ he said.
Godiyal said that the purpose of registering protest by wearing black band is to send a message to the central government and the BJP leadership that the people of Uttarakhand will not remain mute spectators on issues of their rights, dignity and justice. The Congress Party will continue to raise public issues democratically and continue its struggle by becoming the voice of the people of the State.
