Promoting fish farming: U’khand to import trout from Denmark

Dept to support returnees interested in pisciculture: Rekha Arya

To promote pisciculture in Uttarakhand, the department of fisheries is planning to import trout variety of fishes from Denmark. Information regarding this was provided by the state minister for women and child development and fisheries, Rekha Arya during a review of the department at her office in Vidhan Sabha on Monday. In the meeting the minister directed the officials to expedite work in construction of ‘ideal ponds’ for fish culture in the rural areas of the state.

The minister said that under the ‘Blue revolution’ scheme the works like strengthening of ponds and hatcheries and providing good quality seeds to farmers should be undertaken. Reviewing the works of the department for the financial year 2019-20, the minister said that all the districts achieved the targets. She however added that the department could not fulfill the complete demand of fish seeds during the Covid-19 pandemic. The minister said that the department would provide benefits of its schemes to all those returnees who want to adopt fish culture. She said that the budget for the year 2020-21 has been received and directed the officials to ensure its speedy transfer to the districts.

The secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram, officiating director, fisheries, H K Purohit and officers of fisheries of all the districts were present on the occasion.
