After the management of some religious structures marked as encroachments in the Dehradun city failed to remove the structures by the deadline issued by the authorities, the district administration has decided to demolish these remaining structures on Thursday.

Recently after the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) marked the encroachments by the religious structures in the city, the administration asked the management of these religious structures to remove their illegal structures on their own by Wednesday evening. However, the officials informed that very few religious structures were removed voluntarily by the given time.

“Out of about 36 illegal religious structures in the city, around 20 religious structures still remain to be demolished. Since the management of these structures did not remove the encroachments voluntarily by Wednesday, the administration is compelled to commence the work to demolish these structures from Thursday,” said the city magistrate Kusum Chauhan.

Meanwhile, the administration had also given the time to the locals of Tyagi Road area to demolish about 64 encroachments by Thursday. Some have removed the encroachments from the area but the official sources stated that the people of Tyagi Road area have purportedly got a stay order from the court. However, nothing was officially confirmed by the administration till the time of filing this report.
