The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh visited Rishikesh town on Wednesday and extended the support of his party to the protest staged by the statehood activists against demolition of a martyrs memorial. In the ongoing anti encroachment drive, the memorial was demolished prompting the statehood activists to stage a protest.

Speaking on the occasion, the PCC president said that the demolition of the memorial without shifting it elsewhere is highly deplorable. He said that the action of the Trivendra Singh Rawat government is a blow on the sentiments associated with creation of Uttarakhand. He claimed that in the ongoing anti encroachment drive in the state, the complaints of favouritism and selective discrimination are rampant due to which resentment is brewing against the state government among the general public. Singh demanded that the statehood martyrs memorial should be shifted at another location and the sentiments of the statehood activists and people of the state should be respected.
