Atrocities on women & Dalits: Cong holds protest
BJP ruled states are witnessing a surge in crimes against women and Dalits: Pritam Singh
On the call given by the Congress President Sonia Gandhi, the Uttarakhand Congress organised a vehement protest against what it termed increasing atrocities on women and Dalits in the country at Gandhi park here on Thursday. Addressing the party leaders and workers, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Pritam Singh said that all the BJP ruled states are witnessing a surge in crimes against women and Dalits. He said that the role played by the Yogi Adityanath government in the Hathras rape and murder case, proves that on the insistence of CM, the administration tried to cover up the case but when it became public a heinous attempt to give it a casteist shade was made. Singh claimed that Hathras incident is not alone and hundreds of such incidents have taken place during three and half years of Yogi rule in Uttar Pradesh. He added that the governments of Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttarakhand are providing protection to the people who are committing atrocities on women and Dalits. The PCC president said that the Congress party has always stood with the downtrodden section of society and would continue to do so in future also.
The Vice President of Uttarakhand Congress Surya Kant Dhasmana said that the Congress leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi raised their voice against the Hathras incident which forced the media which was busy in doing stories on Sushant Singh, Kangana and Deepika to give prominence to the Hathras case. In his address former MLA Ambrish Kumar termed the Modi government at centre and the BJP governments in states as anti Dalit and anti women. Former cabinet ministers Surveer Singh Sajwan and Hira Singh Bisht, state general secretary Vijay Saraswat, Aryendra Sharma and other Congress leaders also spoke on the occasion.
