Land allotted to Haridwar medical college
The proposed medical college to come up at Jagjitpur village near Kankhal
In a development which paved the way for construction of government medical college Haridwar, the municipal corporation of Haridwar transferred 70.07 acres of land to the medical college administration. The papers of land at Jagjitpur village near Kankhal were handed over by the Municipal commissioner of Haridwar, Jaibharat Singh to the Principal of Haridwar medical college, Dr Pradeep Bharti Gupta on Wednesday.
This college is being planned under a centrally sponsored scheme of the Government of India. The central share in the project would be 90 percent while the state government would have to provide the remaining 10 percent. Dr Gupta told The Pioneer that he is planning that the students in the Haridwar medical college gets functional in the year 2022. It is planned that the college would have a capacity to admit 100 students in the MBBS course.
It is worth mentioning here that Dr Gupta is credited for establishing Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) in Dehradun. He was appointed the Principal of GDMC in December 2016 and the college was given Letter of Permission (LOP) by the Medical Council of India (MCI) in June 2016. Based on this permission; the college had admitted 150 students in its first batch of MBBS course in that year.
