Higher education institutions to reopen from Dec 15
Cabinet approves amendment to bar Chinese companies from State Govt tenders
Higher education institutions in the state will reopen from December 15. All the Covid-19 guidelines will be observed in these institutions. This and various other decisions were taken in the meeting of the cabinet presided over by the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat here on Wednesday.
The cabinet meeting began with the members paying homage to former MLA and ex-deputy speaker of the Vidhan Sabha, Anusuya Prasad Maikhuri who recently succumbed to Covid-19. Subsequently, while discussing the 29 points on the agenda, the cabinet took decisions on 27 issues.
It is pertinent to mention here that though schools were reopened for classes X and XII, no decision had been taken earlier on the reopening of higher education institutions. The report of the committee headed by the chief secretary on this issue was tabled before the cabinet on Wednesday. Based on this, the cabinet approved the reopening of colleges and universities from December 15 with observance of all necessary Covid guidelines. A presentation regarding the Covid-19 vaccine was also made in front of the cabinet. It was stated that in the first phase, 20 per cent of the population will be administered the vaccine with frontline workers and citizens aged above 55 years to be accorded priority. The cabinet also approved amendment in the state procurement rules to bar Chinese companies from tenders of the Uttarakhand government. The cabinet also approved 44 super specialist posts in Government Doon Medical College and 927 posts in Rudrapur medical college. Further, approval was also granted to amendment ordinance for granting reservation to economically weaker sections of society. The cabinet also approved an amendment in the Uttarakhand subordinate service selection commission Act 2014 following which recruitment in the police will also be held through the commission. Relaxation was also approved for the road to the 300 bed hospital in Harrawala. It was also decided that in urban areas of the state, BPL families and those with less than 100 square metre land will be provided water connection for Rs 100. For Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail line, storage and setting up of stone crushers a committee has been formed under the chief secretary which will present its report to the cabinet in three days.
