MCD installing LED street lights in new wards
The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) commenced the installation of around 46,000 LED street lights in the new wards from Monday. Earlier, the corporation had planned to start the installation work from January 15 but according to officials, it got delayed after the counsellors intervened in the process due to which the corporation had to select names of the wards through the lottery system. The municipal commissioner, Vinay Shankar Pandey informed that as per the recent revised survey conducted by the EESL company which will install the street lights in the new wards, the installation of around 46,000 street lights is required in 29 new wards instead of the earlier estimation of about 65,000 street lights. Moreover, he further informed that the installation of street lights will start from a batch of five wards as selected through the lottery system and around 10,000 street lights will be issued for installation at the initial phase. Subsequently, the installation work will proceed in all the wards with the same procedure for the next two months. Pandey said that though the installation work had been delayed by a few days, the corporation will finish the installation of the street lights by March 30. It is pertinent to mention here that besides handing over the installation work of LED street lights in the new wards, the MCD has also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with EESL Company to manage the maintenance of the installed lights for the next seven years in the city.
