State govt to provide grant to vernacular newspapers
In an effort to promote the regional languages of Uttarakhand, the state government is planning to provide special grant for the vernacular language newspapers.
The chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has given in principle acceptance to the proposal of the languages department of the state in this regard. The secretary of Higher education, languages and Sanskrit education, Vinod Raturi told The Pioneer that the department has started a process to enlist the newspapers published in Garhwali, Kumaoni and Jaunsari. He however added that a decision on the amount and duration of the grant has not yet been taken. Raturi said that the grant would be given under Bhasha act of 2018. He informed that a piece of land has been earmarked for the Bhasha Sansthan in Gairsain.
It is worth mentioning here that the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had declared in October last year that Bhasha Sansthan would be set up in the summer capital of the state, Gairsain. The Bhasha Sansthan would have all the four academies of languages.
