Under their anti-defacement campaign, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is planning to make the city free of unlawful posters and hoardings by the end of this month. The municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey informed that he has instructed the municipal inspectors and supervisors to remove all the unlawful posters and hoardings from their respective wards.
The teams of the land section of MCD is also regularly removing the posters pasted on electric poles, walls and other public properties since the last week, informed Pandey. According to him, the corporation is currently focussing on removing the posters and hoardings as much as possible and so far, no private organisation or political party has been penalisd by the corporation yet. “We are raising awareness and letting people know that putting such illegal displays are punishable offence under the Prevention of Defacement of Public Property Act, (PDPP), 2003. The corporation has also instructed the Mahanagar heads of prominent political parties to take permission before installing any public displays in the city,” informed Pandey.
According to him, it will take some time to remove such illegal displays from all over the city while raising awareness among people but the MCD is optimistic that the city will be free of illegal displays by the end of this month.
