Actor Malaika Arora shares her fitness mantra, diet and what keeps her going. By Sakshi Sharma

The world is a beautiful place with many challenges. And on our journeys, we change! One thing that remains constant is the fact that it needs power. My mantra has always been — we learn to bend so that we may seldom break. I push my limits every single day,” reads one of the captions on actor Malaika Arora’s Instagram account. Well, these lines quite evidently reflect the actor’s approach and perspective towards life and its challenges.

Though the fitness enthusiast is not too often seen on the big screen, she has been giving us some major fashion and fitness goals. Here she shares a few health tips. Excerpts

How do you choose to associate with any brand?

To attach myself to a brand, I need to strongly believe in its ethos. It should add relevance to my life.

For instance, I have been a strong standing partner with Reebok because I love its products and the brand has helped me grow within my fitness journey.

What has been your fitness mantra?

I start my day with yoga and meditation in the morning, followed by a walk. I then come back and eat a nutritious meal. I look forward to each day with positive energy and enthusiasm which keeps me mentally healthy too.

Can you give us a breakdown of the diet you follow to stay in shape?

I usually don’t follow any particular diet. I try to eat everything that my body demands but of course in moderation — be it avocados or biryani.

You have been giving us some major ‘yoga goals’ through your Instagram account. Can you give us a deeper insight into your fitness journey?

I discovered yoga when I had a leg injury. It didn’t just give me the mental strength to recover from my injury but also helped me heal from inside out. It was then I realised that I need to include this as a part of my routine.

A lot of people take supplements nowadays. How essential are they to our health?

As long as you are aware of using the right supplements that won’t have any side effects on your body, it is okay to use them since it provides a boost to your body which helps you achieve your goals. I strongly urge everyone to consult a dietician and a physical trainer before taking any supplement.

During the lockdown, most of us were working out from home, with the help of online fitness apps. What would you say about their increasing popularity?

I feel the lockdown period has helped to raise awareness about how fitness is an essential part of our lives. People took the time out to research how to make themselves more efficient and how fitness can help accentuate their daily performance. Fitness apps fit in well here since gyms or parks weren’t open for exercise.

Please share a few fitness tips that you’d want your audience to follow.

A few fitness tips that people can follow are:

  • Choose the right gear (clothes and shoes) that makes you feel comfortable.
  • Create a routine that works for you.
  • Set reasonable expectations to keep yourself motivated throughout.
