Police nab Bangladeshi from Kaliyar area

Amidst heightened security and checks in view of the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar, the police and the local intelligence unit succeeded in apprehending a foreign national on Saturday. According to official sources, while conducting a checking drive in the Kaliyar area, the police arrested a Bangladeshi national. The man was booked under the Passport Act and presented in the court from where he was being sent to jail.

Official sources stated that a checking campaign has been undertaken in the Kaliyar Dargah area in view of the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar. The police team apprehended a person on suspicion and questioned him in the police station. During questioning, the man identified himself as 60 year old Sarvar Hussain from Bagerhat district of Bangladesh. According to officials, the man said during questioning that he had crossed the border without a passport to arrive in India about 30 years ago. In India, he used to live in Kolkata in West Bengal and some years ago had gone to Ajmer. From Ajmer he came to Haridwar district about two years ago and had been working in a guest house in Kaliyar area.

The police station in-charge Jagmohan Ramola informed that the Bangladeshi national had been booked under the relevant act and present in the court.
