SCPCR to organise two-day national level seminar from Tuesday

A two-day national level seminar organised by the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) will start on Tuesday. The SCPCR has invited representatives of several child commissions of the country besides the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to participate in this seminar. According to the chairperson of the commission, Usha Negi, the increasing substance abuse among children and students is a major issue in many states which would be one of the main issues to be discussed in the seminar. She said that the child rights commission here is taking various initiatives to tackle substance abuse among children across the State, especially those underprivileged children who reside in slum areas as they are more vulnerable to fall into drug peddling.

All the recommendations made by experts and officials in the seminar will be sent to the State government and the Central government in which the commission will include suggestions from the last workshop too, informed Negi. Meanwhile, officials also informed that chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat would be the chief guest on the first day of the seminar. Besides this, the commission will also start an awareness campaign on drug abuse in Dehradun by the end of this month, as per Negi.
