Weekly off must in businesses with 10 or more workers
While providing relaxation to the local businessmen of big establishments in Dehradun district, the district administration has allowed the shops to operate every day without any compulsion of weekly closure. However, the businessmen would have to give a weekly off to the employees working in the business establishments which have 10 or more working employees.
The chief development officer (CDO), Nitika Khandelwal informed that as per the labour department, it would be compulsory for the business owners to give at least one weekly off per week or the owner would be liable to pay double for the extra work and time of the employee. The members of Doon Valley Mahanagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal (DVMUVM) have welcomed this decision of the administration.
According to the president of DVMUVM, Pankaj Masson, the businessmen generally used to give the weekly off to the employees this way before the lockdown too. “We recently received this order from the district administration and we are happy with it. Since the administration has allowed the operation of the business on Sundays with certain guidelines, it will surely help the business in the city,” said Masson.
