Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi cabinet minister Gopal Rai said that the party will contest the coming Assembly elections in Uttarakhand on the basis of its Delhi model. In an interaction with The Pioneer, the AAP leader said that his party believes that the people of Uttarakhand are tired of the two party model and are looking for an alternative- which the AAP can provide. He said that here the AAP will contest the election only on developmental issues and not on sentimental issues. Rai was in Haridwar to attend a function in which former Bahujan Samaj Party candidate from Ranipur, Prashant Rai joined the party.
The AAP leader said, “The AAP has a concrete plan for the Assembly elections here on the basis of which the people will elect us. Successive governments in Uttarakhand have not attempted to generate employment at the local level. The irony is that people from Uttarakhand have to go to a place like Delhi for employment. The AAP has a proper plan for the locals and proper exploitation of natural resources to make the people economically strong and stall their migration.”
Regarding the arrangements made for the Haridwar Kumbh Mela, Rai said that the government had failed to make proper arrangements. He opined that the BJP government appears to be confused regarding the Kumbh. “I saw ongoing construction works at various places whereas these should have been completed before the start of the Kumbh Mela. The BJP may have changed the chief minister but the situation has remained the same,” he added.
