Committee of VCs to prepare performance indicators for ranking

The governor of Uttarakhand Baby Rani Maurya has said that the ranking of all the universities of the state should be made according to their performance indices. She was addressing a meeting of the Vice Chancellors (VC) and the senior officials of the universities at Raj Bhawan here on Friday. 

She said that a committee comprising the VCs should be made to decide on the performance indicators. Stressing on better coordination between the registrar and the VCs the governor said the officers should take the problems of the universities seriously.

She suggested that universities should organise such programs which are aimed at generating employment in the mountainous and border areas of the state. She said that the universities should organise programmes on World Environment Day on June 5 and International Yoga Day on June 21. She suggested that the students should be given credit for planting trees and all VCs should make arrangements for water conservation programmes in the campuses. The governors said that VCs should work in the direction of making their universities centres of excellence.  She said that institutes of higher education should make them capable of organizing both the online and physical classes in view of the contagion of Covid-19 so that the studies of the students are not affected. The governor said that the process of de-affiliation of the colleges from the HNB universities has started and they would be affiliated with the Sridev Suman Uttarakhand University.

She directed that the universities and colleges should start the process of filling the vacant posts of faculty without delay. The governor was informed that the Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU) don’t receive any financial assistance from the government on which she directed that a proposal regarding this should be sent to state administration. She said that the Universities should strengthen their own resources. The governor also took stock of the programmes undertaken in the villages adopted by the universities.

The principal secretary higher education Anand Vardhan informed the governor that out of 106 colleges in the state only four colleges don’t have their own building. He said that work on construction of 23 colleges is in progress. Vardhan added that process of appointments in 250 posts of faculty  in colleges has started.

The additional chief secretary, Radha Raturi suggested that the words of Hindi language used in the study material of universities should be easy.

The meeting was also attended by the Secretary,  D Senthil Pandian, Sowjanya, Pankaj Pandey, Brijesh Kumar Sant and VCs of all the Universities.
