Water Sports & Adventure Institute inaugurated in Tehri

The Union Minister of State for Sports Kiren Rijiju along with chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat inaugurated the Water Sports and Adventure Institute (WSAI) at Koti Colony near the Tehri dam reservoir here on Friday. After a long wait, the adventure sports institute, which had remained deserted on the banks of Tehri lake has started functioning after its inauguration by Rijiju and Rawat along with the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) director general SS Deshwal. The opening of the institute is expected to provide employment to the local youth in adventure sports. The institute was constructed in 2015 at Koti Colony on the banks of Tehri lake but had remained non functional for five years.
Speaking on the occasion, Rijiju assured all possible help in the development of sports in Uttarakhand. “I can say confidently that if players of the state get proper training and facilities then they have the potential to win medals in the Olympics. This institute is a new chapter that has been added in the field of sports in the country today.”
Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that this institute, which will be managed and operated by the ITBP, will impart training in paragliding, parasailing, scuba diving, hot air ballooning, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, all terrain biking and other adventure sports.
Tehri MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, local MLA Dhan Singh Negi, district Panchayat chairperson Sona Sajwan and various officials of the ITBP and district administration were also present on the occasion.
