Covid-19 pandemic: AIIMS Rishikesh shuts down general OPD

Emergency care, Telemedicine service to remain functional

In view of increasing contagion of Covid-19, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh has decided to close its OPD service.The hospital authorities have decided that all general patients other than emergency ones would be screened through telemedicine OPD. The hospital Administration has reserved more than 300 beds for the treatment of Covid patients and has claimed that the number of beds would be increased to 500 when required. 

The director of AIIMS Rishikesh, Dr Ravikant said that in view of Covid-19 pandemic, it is advisable for general patients to avail benefit of the AIIMS telemedicine services. He added all types of emergency services  would continue like before.

The dean hospital administration, Dr U B Mishra said that the hospital has reserved more than 300 beds for Covid-19 patients. “There are 80 beds in the ICU facility  and 100 ventilators are available in the hospital for the treatment of severe Covid patients. An emergency centre has also been set up in AIIMS for Covid patients. Here procedures related to screening and hospitalization of Covid-19 patients will be done,’’ he said.
