In view of increasing Covid-19 cases in Dehradun, the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) of Dehradun has decided to commence an odd-even system for the entry of vehicles in the Niranjanpur Mandi.
The secretary of the committee, Vijay Thapliyal informed that since the second wave of the coronavirus is hitting the city hard for the last few weeks, the committee is taking all the precautionary measures to restrict the contagion in the premises of the Niranjanpur Mandi. He said that several vehicles of traders arrive in Mandi on a daily basis that stay for hours and cause a jam in the premises too. In order to ensure that Covid-19 guidelines are being followed in the Mandi during rush hours, the committee has decided to limit the number of such vehicles for the next few days. Thapliyal said that even-numbered vehicles would be allowed to enter on Monday, Wednesday and Friday while the odd-numbered vehicles would be allowed on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in the Mandi from this week.
As per Thapliyal, the committee has also informed about the same to the loader union and added that only those loader vehicles would be allowed to enter the premises which are registered with the union. He further informed that the traders with registered vehicles would be sent in the Mandi at the interval of one hour and every trader would have to return in the given time or the union would cancel its registration. Moreover, the officials said that no person would be allowed in the Mandi premises without wearing a mask or the administration would impose fines on the offenders. According to them, the APMC collected about Rs 5,700 by penalising 57 people on Tuesday for not wearing a mask in Mandi.
