GDMC acts as saviour, lends 2,000 injections from its quota
Chaos prevailed in the office of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Dehradun on Friday when relatives of many patients of Mucormycosis (Black Fungus) reached the office and demanded Amphotericin- B injections. They had reached the office in the hope of getting injections after reading newspaper reports on the state getting 15,000 doses of the injection. However when they were told that the office has not yet received the doses the tempers rose and the agitated relatives argued with the officials. The police had to be called to pacify the agitated relatives. The CMO, Dehradun Dr Anup Dimri curtly told the relatives that he has not received the injections and his office would supply them to the hospitals when the consignment is received. Later on the intervention of the director general (DG) of state health services, Dr Tripti Bahuguna the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) lent 2000 injections from its quota to the CMO office. On receipt of these injections the office of CMO distributed them to 43 caretakers of patients who were waiting for the injections.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Rudrapur based VHB Medicosciences had provided 15,000 injections of Amphotericin B injections to Uttarakhand. The GDMC hospital received its quota of 10,000 of the injections while 2,000 injections were for the Haldwani medical college hospital and remaining 3,000 were for the health directorate. The quota meant for the Health directorate failed to arrive due to which the injections could not be provided to the CMO office, Dehradun. It left the waiting caretakers of patients agitated. However due to the magnanimity shown by the GDMC principal Dr Ashutosh Sayana the injections were provided to the relatives.
