District administration plans to plant over 3.5 lakh saplings on Harela

The Dehradun district magistrate directed various district officials to make arrangements for elaborate tree plantation on the occasion of Harela festival on July 16. In a review meeting on Harela event on Thursday, the DM Ashish Kumar Srivastava said that Dehradun’s litchies are quite famous due to which, he directed chief horticulture officer, Meenakshi Joshi to make a work plan to plant litchi saplings on a great scale on Harela. He directed various departments to set their goals to plant maximum number of saplings on the occasion and asked them to inform the chief development officer (CDO) Nitika Khandelwal.
Moreover, he also instructed the Dehradun divisional forest officer (DFO) Rajiv Dhiman to prepare a work plan indicating the places to plant the saplings and necessary arrangements for the protection of the saplings after the plantation. The DM said that 3,51,253 saplings were planted last year within one hour and this year, the administration plans to surpass this number. He directed all the officials concerned to present their work plan in the next review meeting. Meanwhile, the DM informed that chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat will be inaugurating the event of planting the saplings in the district on the occasion of Harela.
