Even as the BJP in a swift turn of events made a young Pushkar Singh Dhami the chief minister of Uttarakhand by replacing Tirath Singh Rawat while ignoring the claim of many senior leaders of the party in the process, the opposition Congress in the state remains indecisive on choice of person for the position of leader of its legislature party. The senior leaders of Congress including the former chief minister and general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Harish Rawat and PCC president Pritam Singh are camping in Delhi from last 11 days to solve the tangle of CLP leader and possible successor of Singh on the post of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president but the party is yet to take a final call. After deliberating for two days in Delhi the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) had passed a one line resolution on June 28 authorising the Congress high command to take the decision on CLP leader. It is learnt that the party has made up its mind to appoint Pritam Singh on the post of CLP leader. However, for it he would have to resign from the post of PCC president. Pritam who initially had dug his heels on being removed from the coveted post of PCC president is learnt to have accepted the offer. According to the sources both Pritam Singh and Harish Rawat want a person of their choice to be made the PCC president. Rawat who is almost certain to be made the chairman of the all important election campaign committee of the Congress in Uttarakhand has learnt to have told the party leadership that someone close to him should be made the PCC president so that the party’s poll prospects are not affected. It is learnt that Rawat is insisting on appointment of Ganesh Godiyal for the PCC president’s post. The camp of Pritam Singh however is said to be backing young Bhuwan Kapdi for the position.
The names of Manoj Tiwari, Navprabhat, Kishore Upadhyaya and Hemesh Kharkwal, Surya Kant Dhasmana and Rajya Sabha MP Pradeep Tamta are also making rounds in the political circles as probable replacements of Singh on the position of PCC president.
When contacted the PCC president Pritam Singh told The Pioneer that the party high command would take a final decision and that would be acceptable.
