Nainital district admin providing employment opportunities to women

The Nainital district administration will provide quality chicks to 1,000 women of women self-help groups (SHGs) to increase the employment opportunities for rural women. According to the district magistrate, Dhiraaj Singh Garbiyal, the administration is continuously trying to provide employment opportunities to locals, especially women through various government schemes. He said that the administration has also started providing 600 polyhouses at 90 per cent subsidy under the district plan in Nainital to promote the production of off-season vegetables and floriculture in the district. The DM said that in order to benefit the needy people through the polyhouse scheme, the administration prefers candidates from poor families, women from SHGs and unemployed people among others. Anyone from such categories who want to work under the scheme can contact their respective block development officer (BDO), chief horticulture officer or the chief development officer (CDO), stated the DM.

He also informed that the administration will provide polyhouses to the women of about 160 SHGs in the district for intense off-season vegetable production and flower production. Besides this, 1,000 women will also be provided with good quality chicks for poultry farming under the district plan by the Animal Husbandry Department. Garbiyal informed that 3,344 women SHGs with about 25,262 women have been formed in the district under National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM). From the year 2013 to the present, the administration has provided loans of 2,172 crores to all such SHGs through various banks in the district, informed the DM. He said that women SHGs in the district are learning and working in LED Growth Centre, Organic Growth Centre, Masala Growth Centre and Fruit Processing Growth Center among others and administration will continue to provide them with more such opportunities.
