The National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma has appealed to chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to set up the office of Uttarakhand State Women Commission (USCW) at such a place in Dehradun where it can be more accessible for women.

On Sunday, the NCW head met Dhami along with the vice president of USCW, Jyoti Shah Mishra and talked about women issues in the State. Sharma said to Dhami that the State government needs to put special efforts to tackle women issues besides providing its full support to the women commission here.

She also said that the USCW office in Dehradun is located at Suddhowala where it is hard for women in need to approach the commission, especially for those who cannot afford transportation costs. She also requested the CM to not go ahead with the take home ration (THR) tender procedure as according to Sharma, it will make over one lakh women unemployed in the State.

Mishra from USCW also told the CM about an issue in Gaura Kanya Dhan Yojana. She said that potential female beneficiaries who had applied to get benefits from this scheme during the year 2016-17 could not be provided with any benefits under the scheme as this scheme was shifted from the Social Welfare department to the Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) department during that time period.

Due to the shifting of the scheme, potential beneficiaries could not be provided with any benefits, informed Mishra. Responding to such appeals, Dhami assured that he will consider all these requests and will soon take action to properly deal with these issues.
