A number of people took out a Jan Akrosh rally in Badrinath in support of the demand for the start of the Char Dham Yatra on Friday. Local residents, Teerth Purohits, traditional right holders, members of the local traders and hotel associations along with people from Bamni and Mana villages rallied from the bus station to the Saket intersection while raising slogans. They were stopped by the police when they tried to move towards the Badrinath temple complex.
It is worth mentioning here that a protest demonstration has been going on at the Saket intersection here for the past seven days against locals not yet being allowed to visit the Badrinath temple and the Char Dham Yatra not being started. A protest rally was organised as part of this agitation on Friday. Badri Sangharsh Samiti head Rajesh Mehta said that businesses are closed in Badrinath during the pilgrimage period. After waiting for the court orders, if the pilgrimage is not started soon, a plan will be made for intensifying the agitation, he said.
