The Aam Aadmi Party’s spokesperson Naveen Pirshali has alleged that sections of the Ranipokhri bridge collapsed due to the ignorance of the Public Works Department (PWD) and the PWD minister Satpal Maharaaz must resign. He said that due to the illegal mining across the state, 32 bridges have collapsed in the past five years in Uttarakhand.
Most of such mining activities are being done in connivance with the authorities which led to the collapse of these bridges, stated Pirshali. He said that the mining activity near the Ranipokhri bridge was being done for the benefit of a former chief minister’s acquaintance against the rules and no action was taken by the authorities. He said that due to such illegal activities, 32 bridges have collapsed in the past five years in the state while 27 bridges are extremely damaged. Pirshali said that the Ranipokhri bridge collapsed due to the ignorance of PWD and the party will stage a protest on Wednesday to demand resignation from the PWD minister.
Besides this, he also announced a social media campaign in which he appealed to people to click photographs of damaged bridges to get to know the real conditions of bridges in state.
