Compensation & rehabilitation details finalised for 415 Tehri dam displaced families

A total of 415 Tehri dam affected families will be paid Rs 74.4 lakh each along with compensation for their buildings and other properties. The state’s Irrigation minister Satpal Maharaaz said this at a meeting held regarding the dam affected displaced families on Saturday.
The minister said that during the meeting held in the past with the Union Power minister Rajkumar Singh, it had been decided that redressal of the rehabilitation related issues of the 415 displaced families will be facilitated outside the court. It was decided in the meeting of THDC India Limited officials, Irrigation secretary and the Tehri district magistrate that THDCIL will provide an undertaking to the Uttarakhand government. After the state government issued an amended order for formation of technical committee under collateral damage policy 2013, the company would withdraw its writ filed in the Uttarakhand high court. Maharaaz said that formalities have been completed for this and the state government will soon issue the amended order after which the writ will be withdrawn from the high court. As per the compensation fixed for rehabilitation of the 415 families, the amount is Rs 74.4 lakh each. It has been agreed by both THDCIL and the state government that such families for whom no land is available will be provided Rs 74.4 lakh per family.
As per the evaluation standards of the Public Works Department, the affected families will be compensated in cash for their damaged buildings. The minister further said that two acre developed land will be provided in Haridwar and Dehradun district or other location if the damage to land of the affected families is more than 50 per cent of the total land and if it is located at or above RL 835 metres. Further, the affected family will also be provided Rs 60,000 as building construction assistance. The compensation for other property like cattle shed, trees, grains etc will be made as per the evaluation standards of PWD, Horticulture department and Forest department, he added. If the families do not approve of the land, the government will provide them compensation in cash as per the approved rates.It is pertinent to mention here that due to the proactive efforts of the Irrigation minister, the issues of the 415 Tehri dam affected displaced families are nearing resolution after a wait of about 20 years.
