Uttarakhand governor Baby Rani Maurya submitted her resignation to the President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday. Maurya, who had completed three years in office as the state’s governor last month still had two years left in her tenure. According to sources, she cited personal reasons for her resignation though speculation is rife that she may be given an important position as a BJP leader in her home state of Uttar Pradesh ahead of the Assembly elections there.
Maurya was sworn in as the Uttarakhand governor in August 2018 after her predecessor Krishna Kant Paul completed his five-year tenure.
She has served at various positions in the past. She was the mayor of Agra from 1995 to 2000 while in 2001, she was a member of the State Social Welfare Board and a member of the National Women’s Commission in 2002.
