MCD to discourage pet owners leaving pet droppings in open

Considering the good response received by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) for pet dogs’ license registration in the last financial year, the officials are expecting at least 10,000 registrations this year. Besides this, the corporation is also working on discouraging pet owners from letting their pets defecate in public places. In the year 2019-20, the MCD had issued about 540 pet dog licenses which was the highest till then as per the officials.

In the last financial year, the corporation issued more than 4,000 pet dog licenses which is still the highest number in the history of the corporation. The corporation has issued about 500 licenses this year so far. The officials stated that the situation has improved a lot since the last year as people in the city are more aware of the need of having a dog license. “Most of the people applied after August last year and we issued licenses to about 4,000 dog owners. To make the process easy this time, we launched a portal for dog licenses a few months ago through which people can apply online for license registration. In a day or two, we will upgrade our portal where people will be able to make direct payments too and will be able to get their license at their doorstep,” stated Tiwari. He said that with all the provided facilities this year, it is expected that at least 10,000 people will apply for dog licenses. He also informed that the corporation will soon start sending notices and issue penalties on those who have failed to get a dog license. He also informed that the corporation will also start a campaign to raise awareness among locals to clean after their pet dogs that they let defecate in public places.

“We are working on plans to discourage people to let their dogs defecate in public places and encourage them to pick the droppings if they do and hopefully, it will be executed well by the next year,” stated Tiwari.
