A leopard suspected of being responsible for killing a girl in Pithoragarh district was trapped in a cage within 24 hours of the killing. The big cat was caged late on Monday evening in the Pata Bajti ward of Pithoragarh city.
Eight year old Mansi was killed by a leopard outside her home late on Sunday evening. Her body was found in the bushes the next day. Taking serious cognisance, the district magistrate Ashish Chauhan held a meeting with officials concerned and directed Forest department officials to ensure that the big cat is also kept alive. He said that the leopard should neither be allowed to kill any human nor should it be killed. The DM asked the municipality to immediately install street lights in the areas included in the municipality of Bajti and Paun among others areas.
