With the launch of the new software by next week, the eligible applicants in Uttarakhand will be able to apply for a new form of number plates called Bharat (BH) series for the seamless transfer of vehicles across the country. On August 28, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) issued a notification stating that the owners of the vehicles bearing the BH registration number plate will not have to re-register their vehicles after shifting to a new state. A BH series number plate will comprise four components in the format YY BH #### XX where YY indicates the digits of the year when the vehicle was first registered, BH indicates series code, #### represents four random numbers and XX indicates two English alphabets. As per the rules, the vehicle owners who have to shift to new states frequently due to the nature of their jobs are required to register their vehicle in the new states too. For this, the owners need to get permissions like No Objection Certificate (NOC) among others from the previous state to register it in the new state. Since the whole cumbersome process takes a considerable amount of time of the owner in the old as well as in the new state every time he/she relocates, MoRTH introduced registration of a new form of number plates called BH series. Informing about this, the deputy transport commissioner Sanat Kumar Singh said that the whole BH series registration process is completely digital to prevent any hassle to the applicants in their respective locations. He said that for now, the registration is on a voluntary basis and only the central and state government employees, defence personnel and the employees of those private sector companies which have offices in more than three states are eligible to apply for the BH series number plates. He asserted that only up to five per cent of the owners of the registered vehicles in the state apply for vehicle transfer every year but added that the new format will certainly help people. He said that the department is currently running tests on the new software for the registration of Bharat (BH) series vehicles and will be launched by next week. “With the launch of the software by next week, the eligible people in Uttarakhand can also apply for BH series number plates,” said Singh
