Kedarnath & Yamunotri to be ritually closed today
The process of the Char Dham shrines being closed for the winters began on Friday with the portals of Gangotri being closed ceremoniously on the occasion of Govardhan Pooja on Friday.Following rituals, the portals of the shrine to goddess Ganga were closed to the public at 11:45 AM.
A large number of devotees were present as the priests conducted special prayers on the occasion. The Utsav Doli of the goddess departed from Gangotri after closing of the shrine. It will pass through various locations before reaching the winter abode of the goddess at Mukhba. The Uttarkashi district magistrate Mayur Dixit informed that more than 32,948 pilgrims visited Gangotri during the pilgrimage season this year.
The Uttarakhand Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board media in-charge Harish Gaur inroemd that the portals of Kedarnath and Yamunotri will be ritually closed for the winter on Saturday morning. While the Utsav Doli of lord Kedarnath will reach his winter abode at Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath, the Utsav Doli of goddess Yamuna will reach her winter abode at Kharsali village. Similarly, the portals of Badrinath temple will be closed to the public for the winter on November 20. So far about 4.5 lakh pilgrims have undertaken the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand this year, added Gaur.
