The opposition Congress has termed the Kedarnath visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as disappointing for the people of Uttarakhand.

The former chief minister and head of election campaign committee Harish Rawat said that the PM made no announcements for the disaster affected state of Uttarakhand. He criticised the PM for live telecast of his prayers at the sanctum sanctorum (Garbh Grah) of Kedarnath temple. Rawat said that the PM trampled on the beliefs and tradition in his visit. Rawat said that the PM delivered such a speech from the temple premises which was aimed to meet the political objectives and the speech was live telecasted by government communication mediums.

The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Pritam Singh said that the PM’s speech had no mention of Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board act. He said that had this government been sensitive then it should have immediately dissolved the act against which the Teerth Purohits are agitating.

The vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Suryakant Dhasmana said that the 50 minute long speech of PM Modi was disappointing for the state as it had no mention of recent rain triggered disaster in Kumaon, Devasthanam Management Board, green bonus and prevailing unemployment in the state. He said that the only focus of the PM was to hammer home the point that only he can protect the Sanatan Dharma.
