Stung by the campaign launched by the opposition parties in which they are alleging that the ruling party is abetting and patronising illegal mining in different parts of Uttarakhand, the state government has moved into an action on the issue. On Tuesday the chief secretary Sukhbir Singh Sandhu issued stern directives to the officers concerned and asked them to effectively control the illegal mining, transportation and storage of the minerals in the state. In his orders to the director general (DG) of the state police, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), director general (DG) mines and minerals and all district magistrates (DM) has directed them to provide the details of the action taken on illegal mining on an earlier order and the implementation report on the order. The CS warned that strict action would be taken on the officers and employees responsible for showing laxity on the issue.
It is pertinent to mention here that the principal opposition party, Congress is targeting chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on providing protection to those involved in illegal mining and the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal has even labelled Dhami as ‘Khanan Priya Mukhyamantri’. The opposition parties are also pointing fingers towards cabinet minister Swami Yatishwaranand for his role in abetting illegal mining.
