HNB Medical Education University to hold 4th convocation today

The fourth convocation of HN Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University will be held in the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital premises today. A total of 1,141 students will be awarded degrees including 29 students who will receive gold medals too. The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh will be the chief guest of the event.
Addressing media persons in a Press conference held here on Sunday, the vice-chancellor of the university, professor Hemchandra Pandey informed that a total of 1,141 students will be conferred with degrees that include 493 BSc nursing students, 243 paramedical students, 202 MBBS students, 87 students of post basic BSc, 59 students of MD and MS, 56 students of MSc nursing and one student of Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care (NPCC).
He said that the university will also present honorary degrees to three medical professionals for their contribution to the medical field. He said, “The university has selected Padma Shri awardee Dr Jeewan Singh Titiyal who is credited as the first Indian doctor to perform the first live cornea transplantation surgery. Besides this, an expert of internal medicine Dr Jugal Kishore Sharma and a senior scientist in Lucknow under the Government of India (GOI), Dr AB Pant, have also been selected to be conferred with the honorary degree.”
The VC also informed that only 41 students including 29 students winning gold medals and eight students winning silver medals are invited to the convocation ceremony on Monday out of 1,141 students due to Covid-19 protocols.
