Cong demands white paper on economy

Claiming that the economy of Uttarakhand is in shambles, the Uttarakhand Congress has demanded that the state government should come out with a white paper on the state of economy. Making the demand, the head of the campaign committee of Uttarakhand Congress and former chief minister Harish Rawat said on Tuesday that the government in Uttarakhand is running on the loans and the annual rate of revenue growth is at its lowest in 21 years. “When the Congress was in government the revenue growth of Uttarakhand was at 19.5 per cent which was second highest in the country after Karnataka. Now this has dropped to 6.1 per cent. This government has destroyed the infrastructure of the health and education system. I have the information that this government has even drawn money against the securities of the departments,’’ he said.

Rawat added that the new government in Uttarakhand after the assembly election of 2022 would inherit a ruined economy, ineffective administration and an army of more than nine lakh unemployed. “The elections of 2022 are being held in the most critical time period in terms of the economy. The government which will assume office in 2022 is faced with a Himalayan task. So we demand that a white paper on the economy should be released,’’ he said.

On the employment figures provided by the government in the Vidhan Sabha Rawat said that what the government is saying inside assembly and outside is nothing but a bundle of lies. He said that he is ready to debate with any of the two former CMs or present CM on the employment generated by it. Rawat said the Congress government would set in place a checkpoint in cabinet which would vet every proposal which is more than Rs 10 crore for the employment generated by it. He claimed that the Congress government would review the mining policy and would order a judicial inquiry on the complaints of illegal mining activities. Rawat added that the Congress government would provide a subsidy of Rs 200 on every cylinder of cooking gas.
