Cold wave conditions to continue as mountainous areas experience freezing conditions

With cold wave conditions being experienced in parts of the state, the meteorological centre has issued a yellow alert while forecasting the likelihood of cold wave conditions prevailing at isolated places in the plains especially in Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar district of Uttarakhand. Frost is also likely to occur at isolated places in the state. Dehradun is forecast to have mainly clear skies with mist likely to occur during early morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 22 degrees Celsius and five degrees Celsius respectively on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, various parts in the mountainous regions are experiencing chilly conditions. The freezing cold being experienced in the Joshimath area of Chamoli district has caused the streams in Auli to freeze. Local resident Deepak Singh said that apart from frozen streams, the dew on trees was also frozen by the cold with the minimum temperature falling to below zero in Auli. The severe cold and its effects are also causing inconvenience to tourists arriving here in their vehicles. The administration should take steps to clear the frost creating layers of ice on the road, he added.
Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the state were 22.8 degrees Celsius and 5.1 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 22.2 degrees Celsius and 1.8 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 11.5 degrees Celsius and two degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 14 degrees Celsius and 2.8 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri.
