The police have nabbed two brothers for the murder of their 18-year-old sister whose dead body was found last week in the Raipur area of Dehradun. The victim’s sister-in-law has also been arrested for assisting in the murder. The superintendent of police (city) Sarita Dobhal informed that the police recovered a female’s dead body in the bushes in Soda Saroli village of Raipur after locals informed about a body. The condition of the body indicated that it was at least a month old. She said that the police displayed the photos and pamphlets of the victim’s picture on social media platforms, newspapers and public places for her identification. After seeing the pictures, a local named Muntun Bhagat informed the police on December 20 that he suspects the victim is his wife’s sister Reena who is from Bihar but was recently living with her brothers in Rajeevnagar. He informed the police that the victim had returned to Bihar with her 24 year old brother Sandeep Bhagat.
Dobhal said that a team of police went to Bihar to enquire the brother who confessed that he killed his sister with the help of his older brother Subhash Bhagat and his 22-year-old wife Phoolkumari Devi. The police brought him to Dehradun on transit remand and arrested the other two culprits on Thursday from Rajeevnagar. “The brothers revealed during the investigation that their sister wanted to marry a man belonging to a lower caste in Bihar due to which, the villagers were threatening them of eviction from the village. They said that they called Reena to Dehradun last month and despite asking her to break her relationship with him, she insisted on marrying him. So both brothers and the sister-in-law suffocated her to death in the nearby forest on November 6 and covered the body with stones,” informed Dobhal.
She said that the police will present the culprits in the court soon.
