Sakhi and model polling booths established for polling today

In view of polling for the assembly elections on Monday, a total of 150 model (Adarsh) polling booths and 100 Sakhi polling booths have been set up across the state on the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI). These booths have been set up to ensure participation of women in casting votes across the state. All the polling staff, police and security personnel deployed in these centres would be women. The administration has also made special arrangements for burqa-clad women.
A special rest room has also been set up for pregnant women and the staff will ensure that they do not have to stand in queues to cast votes. All assembly constituencies have at least a single Sakhi polling booth. Besides this, 30 more booths have been set up across the state including 19 in Haridwar, 18 in Dehradun, 17 in Udham Singh Nagar, 12 in Nainital, six in Pauri Garhwal and Almora, four in Pithoragarh, three each in Uttarkashi and Chamoli and two each in Champawat, Rudraprayag and Bageshwar.
Besides this, 150 model polling booths have been set up in the state which include
24 in Haridwar, 23 booths in Dehradun, 21 in Udham Singh Nagar, 17 in Nainital, 10 in Almora, eight in Pithoragarh, six each in Uttarkashi and Chamoli, and five each in Champawat and Bageshwar. These booths have been set up on three parameters- structure of buildings and basic facilities, improvement in queue management and proper behaviour of polling personnel and volunteers in the booths. Facilities like electricity, separate toilets for men and women, provision of drinking water, waiting room, ramp and wheelchair for differently-abled will also be provided in such booths.
