Winning from Gangotri ensures Govt formation yet again

The belief that the party winning from the Gangotri Assembly constituency in Uttarkashi district also forms the government in the state has remained intact in the 2022 Assembly election. This trend has been continuing since the days of undivided Uttar Pradesh before the creation of Uttarakhand as a separate State. This time, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Suresh Chauhan defeated his Congress rival Vijaypal Singh Sajwan by a margin of 8,029 votes in Gangotri constituency and the BJP is now preparing to form the new government in the state. The Aam Aadmi Party candidate Ajay Kothiyal also contested from this constituency but did not get the votes the party had expected. BJP’s Suresh Chauhan managed to defeat two-time Congress state vice-president and party candidate Vijaypal Singh Sajwan.
Since 1952 in undivided Uttar Pradesh the trend of the party winning from Gangotri also forming the government in the state has continued to this day.
