The Uttarakhand high court has rejected the anticipatory bail application of noted industrialist and builder Sudhir Kumar Windlass who is accused of fraud for buying a land and has reportedly gone abroad. The police in Dehradun had earlier lodged a case against him for allegedly using a forged sale deed to purchase and take control of a plot of land.

According to the case details, Dehradun resident Sanjay Singh had lodged a report in the Rajpur police station in the city on January 9, 2021 alleging that Windlass had taken over 20 bigha land belonging to him (Singh) using forged sale deed. It was stated that those shown as sellers in the said sale deed were employees of Windlass with names similar to those of Singh’s family members. After the police lodged a case based on this complaint, the anticipatory bail application of the accused was rejected by the session court in Dehradun on February 22 this year. Following this, Windlass reportedly left the country on February 27 without informing the investigating officer and the court. Subsequently, a counsel representing the accused filed an anticipatory bail application in the Uttarakhand high court. Hearing the matter, the single bench of justice Ravindra Maithani rejected the application on the basis of the accused builder leaving the country without informing the authorities.
