Visit of DushyantGautam and scheduled visit of B L Santosh to Dehradun give rise to speculations on change of guard in party’s organisation

The arrival of the in charge of state unit of BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) DushyantGautam in Dehradun on Saturday and expected visit of national general secretary ( organisation ) B L Santosh to Uttarakhand next week has given rise to the speculations on proposed changes in the party organisation. After meeting the state leaders, Gautam is expected to appraise the party high command about their views on the organisation and government.

The party insiders are of the view that the BJP would change the president of its state unit. The incumbent president of Uttarakhand BJP, MadanKaushik is likely to be replaced by some leader belonging to the Brahmin community of Garhwal region of the state. In the cabinet of CM PushkarSingh Dhami there is no representation from Haridwar district. The BJP leadership is likely to include Kaushik in the cabinet to give representation to Haridwar district which sends maximum (11) number of MLAs in the state assembly.

In spite of winning two third seats in the 70 member assembly, the BJP could manage to win in only three seats out of 11 seats in Haridwar district. Since Kaushik is a very experienced and seasoned campaigner, CM Dhami would like to use him in his cabinet. Apart from selection of a new chief, the state unit of BJP is likely to make appointments on the vacant post of president of the women wing and two posts of Vice Presidents. The former president of the women wing RituKhanduri was elected from Kotdwar in the recent assembly election and was made the Speaker of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha by the party. In his meeting of CM and Gautam discussion on the selection of a constituency for CM Dhami is likely to occur. After his defeat at the hands of BhuwanKapri of Congress from Khatima, Dhami needed to be elected to the state assembly within six months. Many BJP MLAs and Congress MLA from Dharchula Harish Dhami have offered their seats to Dhami for his entry in the state assembly.

After Gautam’s visit, the national general secretary organisation B L Santosh would arrive in Dehradun on April 24. He would hold meetings with the office bearers of the state unit during his visit in which review on different aspects of the organisation and government is expected to occur.
