Various steps have been taken to maintain the traffic system in Nainital considering the heavy flow of tourists to this city. The police deputy inspector general (Kumaon) Nilesh Anand Bharne informed about these and other measures while interacting with the media here on Monday.
The DIG said that considering the rising number of tourists arriving in Nainital, two new parking spaces have been opened at Narayannagar and St Jones church ground. Stating that tourist vehicles will be parked at these spaces, he said that vehicles parked at the parking for more than one week will be verified. If the vehicle is not being used, the owner of the vehicle will be directed to park it at the Sukhatal parking. Further, verification of randomly parked vehicles appearing to be abandoned will also be undertaken in order to prevent traffic congestion in the city. He further said that the Narayannagar parking has also been opened for vehicles and officials concerned have been directed to deputy personnel on duty at the site to ensure systematic parking. In case of extremely high number of tourist arrival of heavy traffic load, the Saint Jones church ground has been opened as an alternate parking facility. This space has the capacity for parking about 300 vehicles.
Bharne further said that due to the traffic congestion resulting from hindrance to traffic being caused by operation of the new toll tax booth, the toll tax booth has been shifted back to its old location at the Tallital rickshaw stand for the duration of the tourist season.
