A little more than 22 lakh people have visited the Char Dham shrines since the start of the Char Dham Yatra in May. According to information provided by the Tourism department, 2,99,740 people have visited Yamunotri, 3,89,191 have visited Gangotri, 7,36,996 have visited Kedarnath and 7,60,976 have visited Badrinath shrine so far. Gangotri and Yamunotri temples were reopened to the public on May 3, Kedarnath was reopened on May 6 while Badrinath was reopened to the public on May 8. Further, 88,769 people have visited the Hemkund Gurudwara was was reopened to the public on May 22. Since the start of the Char Dham Yatra till date, 1,18,847 persons have been administered OPD service in the Char Dham pilgrimage, 8,793 have received emergency medical service, 733 sustained injuries, 535 were referred by ambulance and 32 by helicopter. Further, a total of 3,40,791 persons underwent health screening out of whom 4,004 submitted undertakings to the authorities for carrying on with the pilgrimage at their own health risk. Apart from these, 96 visitors were sent back by the authorities.
It is pertinent to mention here that since the Char Dham Yatra is being undertaken in a full-fledged manner this year after being held with major restrictions during the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a record number of people are arriving in Uttarakhand for the pilgrimage.
