10k police & paramilitary personnel deployed for Kanwad Mela starting today

About 10,000 police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in Haridwar for the Kanwad Yatra starting today. The additional director general of police (Law and Order) V Murugesan and Haridwar district magistrate Vinay Shankar Pandey briefed the personnel on Wednesday and issued instructions to them regarding the event expected to be attended by more than four crore people in a period of 12 days.
Addressing the personnel on Kanwad Mela duty, ADG Murugesan directed them to be polite with the Kanwadiyas while on duty. Along with this, DM Vinay Shankar Pandey also asked all the employees engaged in Kanwad duty to undertake their tasks in coordination with each other. Murugesan said that necessary directions have been given to the force on duty. Further, playing loud music will also be prohibited for the Kanwadiyas. He also appealed to the Kanwadiyas to register and come to Haridwar.
Murugesan said that the Kanwad Mela area is divided into 12 super zones, 32 zones and 134 sectors. He said that all preparations for the Kanwad Mela have been completed. While meat shops will remain closed during Kanwad Yatra, instructions have been given to shift back the counter of liquor shops. Kanwadiyas should not carry baseball bats or any other prohibited items. Murugesan added that music will be allowed as per noise pollution norms.
