Covid scare- positivity rate jumps to 9 % in U’khand

118 new cases reported on Saturday; Doon has 412 active cases now

The increase in the number of the Covid-19 cases in Uttarakhand is continuing to cause concern among the authorities and the general public. The state health department reported 118 new cases of the disease from different parts of Uttarakhand on Saturday. On Friday, 115 cases of the disease were found.

 Death of one patient was reported at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh on the day which increased the death toll to 284 in the state this year.  The authorities also declared 53 patients cured from the disease on the day.  The department has so far detected 94,648 new cases of the disease from January 1 this year till date. A total of 90,428 patients have recovered from the disease so far in this year. The recovery percentage of the disease was at 95.60 per cent. The positivity rate of the disease further jumped to 9 per cent on the day which is a major cause of worry.  

 The health department reported 79 new patients from Dehradun, 15 from Haridwar, 13 from Nainital, three from Uttarkashi and two each from Almora, Pithoragarh, Tehri and Udham Singh Nagar on Saturday.  No new cases were reported from Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Pauri and Rudraprayag districts on the day. 

The number of active patients of Covid-19 was at 577 on Saturday. Dehradun with 412 cases is at the top of the table of active cases while Nainital 60 and Haridwar 42 active cases of the disease. Bageshwar, Champawat and Rudraprayag districts have no active cases of the disease now.

 In the ongoing vaccination drive 18,984 people were vaccinated in 637 sessions in the state held on Saturday.
