AAP warns Govt on proposed surcharge on electricity bills

Tuesday, 26 July 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

Terming the proposal sent by the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) for levying a surcharge on the electricity bills as a mockery, the media in charge ( Garhwal) of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Ravindra Singh Anand has said that the AAP would oppose any such plan. He said that it is a pity that  the  corporation increases the power tariffs and imposes surcharges in a state which is known as Urja Pradesh ( Power state). He said that the proposal to impose surcharge on electricity consumers is wrong as it would give a further push to price rise and the industrialists would desist from setting up industrial units in the state. Anand said that the power corporation is planning to impose a surcharge of Rs two per unit on commercial consumers while it wants to impose a surcharge of 15 paise per unit up to 200 units and 30 paise per unit up to 300 units on domestic consumers.

Anand said that the AAP government in Delhi  is providing free and cheap electricity to the people in Delhi and in Punjab the AAP government has made electricity free till 300 units from July 1 and even then these governments are functioning in a very good manner. He said that the increase in power tariff from time to time and imposing surcharge points out that corruption prevails in the state and the corrupt ministers are making merry at the cost of the hard earned money of the people.
