The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has launched an initiative after the celebrations of the 76th Independence Day to collect and properly dispose of used or torn flags. The municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal has issued orders to the officials concerned to ensure no flag is found in the condition that violates flag code. He said that the MCD has already removed the flags which were hoisted near roads and were likely to get damaged soon.
Though people hoisted flags in their houses, offices and other public places, many do not know about their proper disposal procedure. Considering this, the MCD officials have been directed to ensure the collection and proper disposal of the flags in all 100 wards as per the flag code, said the commissioner. He also appealed to the locals to inform or deposit the flags to the MCD which are not being treated with respect as per the flag code.
