Considering the consistent complaints about irregularities in door-to-door garbage collection service in various wards of the city, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is working on upgrading the global positioning system (GPS) to properly monitor the movement of vehicles. Locals from many areas have been complaining about irregular door-to-door service besides the roadside garbage accumulation which is not being disposed of for several days in many areas.
The municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal said that though there is already an active GPS tracking system for the corporation, it shows about 200 garbage collecting vehicles as dots in a single screen that makes it considerably difficult to properly monitor each vehicle. “The current system lacks easy access to track the vehicular movement and verify whether the garbage is actually being picked and being disposed of at the specified position. We have also been receiving complaints of irregular door-to-door service from various parts which will be easy to address through the updated system. It will help the corporation to be acquainted with the real-time routes of garbage-carrying vehicles to ensure the proper waste management in the city,” said the commissioner.
